Rectangle Gable Vents – Custom Wood & PVC Options
Rectangle gable vents are the most common and versatile style used in residential construction. Designed to provide proper attic ventilation while enhancing curb appeal, our rectangle gable vents are available in both wood and maintenance-free PVC to match virtually any home exterior.
Whether you’re building new construction or replacing an existing vent, selecting the correct mounting style and dimensions is critical to proper installation and airflow performance.
Surface Mount vs. Standard Jamb
Surface mount rectangle gable vents install directly over the siding and cover the rough opening. This style is ideal for retrofit applications or when replacing an existing vent without modifying framing.
Standard jamb rectangle gable vents are built to fit inside a framed rough opening. These are commonly used in new construction and provide a clean, integrated look within the gable wall.
Understanding which installation type you need ensures proper fit and long-term durability.
Wood vs. PVC Rectangle Gable Vents
We offer rectangle gable vents in premium wood species as well as cellular PVC.
Wood vents provide natural character and can be stained or painted to match architectural details. PVC vents offer excellent moisture resistance and low maintenance performance, making them ideal for harsh climates.
Both materials are built with precision-cut louvers designed to promote consistent airflow.
Rough Opening vs. Outside Dimensions
When ordering a rectangle gable vent, it’s important to determine whether you’re measuring the rough
opening (framed opening in the wall) or the outside dimensions of the finished trim.
Standard jamb vents are typically sized to fit rough openings, while surface mount vents are sized by their overall exterior trim dimensions.
If you are unsure which measurement method to use, we recommend confirming your installation style before ordering.

Custom Sizes & Net Free Air (NFA)
Proper attic ventilation depends on achieving adequate net free air (NFA). Our rectangle gable vents are built with engineered louver spacing to maximize airflow while maintaining structural integrity.
Custom sizing is available to help meet ventilation requirements based on attic square footage and building code recommendations.
If you need assistance determining the correct size vent for your application, we’re happy to help.
